ARB: Australian 4x4 Steel Since 1975

Anthony Ronald Brown came back from a hard trip to Cape York in 1975. The gear of the day did not survive corrugated roads and Australian loads. So he started making his own, by hand, in his Melbourne driveway. The company still carries his initials and still runs out of Kilsyth in Victoria.

Of everything ARB makes, the Deluxe is our best seller. It outsells the other ranges combined. The single part we ship most is the Deluxe bar for the 2005-2011 Toyota Tacoma. After that the orders go to work trucks and wagons: the Ford F250/F350 Super Duty, the Ram 2500/3500 and the Land Cruiser. ARB covers more Land Cruiser generations than any brand we carry, from the 60 Series through the 200. It also fits the Nissan Titan, and on a Pathfinder or an Armada it's the only bar we stock.

Why Owners Choose ARB

Buried to the axles, 40 miles down a dirt road, with nobody behind you. Getting out means lifting a wheel clear or pulling on a winch line. Neither works without a solid anchor at the front of the truck. Most ARB bars give you that anchor, and on the Deluxe your factory tow points stay where they were.

The other worry is airbags. A modern truck is meant to fold a certain way in a crash, and that folding is what tells the airbags when to fire. ARB measures how a given vehicle's front end is meant to crush, then reproduces that rate in the bar and in a mounting system bolted to the chassis with high-tensile hardware. In ARB's own words, fitting one "will not affect your vehicle's crush rate and airbag triggering." Not every ARB bar carries that label. Look for air bag compatible on the part you want.

Which ARB Range Fits Your Truck

ARB calls a full front replacement a bull bar: a steel bumper with a guard over the grille and outer sections either side, which ARB calls wings. Year decides most of the choice. The guard and the winch rating decide the rest. Half-ton covers the Silverado 1500, Sierra 1500 and Ram 1500 class. Three-quarter and one-ton is F250 and F350, Silverado and Sierra 2500/3500, Ram 2500/3500. A Tacoma is midsize. The wagons, from the 4Runner to the Land Cruiser, sit on separate bars.

Deluxe

The Deluxe is the older-platform bar, and the one most ARB owners here end up on. It also reaches the widest set of vehicles. A 1980s Land Cruiser 60 Series at one end, a 2015 Tacoma at the other, and Chevy, GMC, Dodge, Ford and Nissan pickups in between.

The guard stands over the grille and headlights. The wings sweep back either side. A split pan sits in the center, 2 pieces with a gap between them, so air still reaches the radiator and a winch has somewhere to sit. Urethane buffers take the small knocks, and the wings carry driving light mounts. Pick the Deluxe if you want steel standing between an animal and your headlights.

Summit

Newer Toyotas get the Summit. A Tacoma through 2015 takes a Deluxe; a 2016 through 2022 takes a Summit. Tundra and 4Runner switch at 2014. Those trucks wear higher, smaller headlights, and the Summit clears them. The top tube measures 60.3mm, bent around an internal die so the wall stays even through the curve. ARB calls the mounting system air bag compatible.

Sahara Bar

Some owners want the steel without the guard across the grille. The Sahara Bar is that bar. Almost every Deluxe listing here comes with a grille guard. No Sahara listing does. You still get ARB's five-fold upswept and tapered wings, a profile that keeps the bar from hanging low enough to catch on a climb. The winch platform and recessed turn signals stay, and fog lamps are an option. On some vehicles the center tube across the front can be had polished, which reads closer to a factory bumper.

Modular

On heavy-duty pickups, ARB breaks the bar into pieces you buy in stages. The base kit replaces the full width of the bumper with a center pan and 2 outer wings. No guard at all. That puts the winch platform and the impact protection on the truck now, and the Sahara or Full Deluxe sections bolt on later without a second bumper underneath them. The base takes a Warn Heavy Weight winch, and on the Ram and Silverado kits a lower panel covers the factory intercooler. Start here on a Ram 2500/3500, a Silverado 2500/3500 or a Ford F250/F350 Super Duty.

Stubby Bar

The Jeep JK gets a short bar here that stops at the frame rails. You want that when the trail turns tight and the front tires have to climb. The Stubby's body is 4mm steel sheet, laser cut and folded, with a 3 inch tube across the front and shackle mounts of its own. A 5 stage chemical wash prepares the steel before the powder coat goes on. At $939 the Stubby is the cheapest way onto ARB steel. You give up coverage at the corners and gain clearance.

Rear Bars

ARB's rear bars turn the back of a wagon into storage and a second recovery point. Coverage is Land Cruiser, FJ Cruiser and Wrangler. We don't carry an ARB rear bar for the pickups on this page.

The Land Cruiser modular rear takes wheel carriers and jerry can holders on twin pivots, so a spare and 2 cans of fuel ride outside the cargo area. Each wing section unbolts separately and gets replaced if a rock finds it. A heavy-duty tow system comes with it. The hitch is removable and the wiring arrives terminated. Tow points and jack points are on it too, and an alloy step with a low-slip tread gets you to the roof. One catch: carriers and can holders are separate part numbers, so order them with the bar.

Jack Points, the Winch Platform and Light Mounts

Most ARB bars arrive with the recovery hardware already on them.

Jack points. 2 of them, one under each buffer, and each takes a Hi-Lift or ARB's own jack. On soft ground you can lift a corner from the front and get a rock or a board under the tire. You don't have to crawl under and hunt for a frame rail.

The winch platform. The platform is part of the bar itself, not a bracket added to one, and it reaches 16,500 lb on the heavy-duty Modular. Lower on the rest. Buy the winch to your bar's number. You also need a fairlead. That's the guide your line runs through on the way out: a roller fairlead suits steel cable, a hawse fairlead suits synthetic rope, and Modular kits include the mount for either. A Deluxe bar with a recessed roller fairlead mount needs ARB spacer kit 3500600 to run a hawse.

Light mounts. The wings carry cutouts and brackets for ARB and IPF driving lights. ARB's fog light kits here fit the Deluxe housings, one of them with the wiring harness included. Summit bars carry a light provision of their own.

What to Know Before You Buy

Fitment. Nearly every ARB bar is cut for one vehicle and one range of years, and the listing names them, along with any holes you need to drill in the frame. Illustrated instructions come in the box. Plan on 2 people and half a day.

Sensors and driver assist. Most ARB bars have no cutouts for factory front parking sensors, and we flag the exceptions. Front radar and camera hardware varies by year and trim. Tell us yours at support@bumperstock.com and we'll check it against the bar.

Finish. ARB's Integrit textured powder coat is the matte black on these bars. On the part numbers that carry it, a zinc-rich primer goes underneath, which slows rust where a stone chips the coating. Older bars came in satin black and gray.

Weight. ARB publishes 75 lb for the Jeep Stubby. A full-size bar with a guard runs past 150 lb, and that's before the winch.

Price. A Tacoma Deluxe starts around $1,300 and a Tacoma Summit runs about $2,500. Wagon bars go from about $1,300 on an early Land Cruiser to $2,900 on a 200 Series. Heavy-duty truck bars sit between $2,050 and $2,650, and a fully built Modular kit reaches $4,180. Jeep starts lowest at $939. Rear bars run $900 to $2,600. ARB enforces a minimum advertised price across its dealers.
