Fab Fours: American Steel Out of Lancaster, South Carolina
Fab Fours started in 2004, when Greg Higgs set up shop in Lancaster, South Carolina, and began building steel bumpers that didn't look like anyone else's. Two decades later the company still designs, tests, and welds everything in that same town, from American steel, with no import line. Today it runs the broadest series lineup in the aftermarket bumper business, from half-ton pickups to one-ton duallys, plus Jeeps and SUVs.
The strongest endorsement came in 2021, when Warn Industries bought the company. Warn built the first recreational electric winch in 1959 and has led truck recovery gear ever since; it does not put its name on soft steel. Production stayed in Lancaster, and the lineup has kept growing. Our own numbers tell the same story: across the trucks we ship, the Vengeance is our best-selling Fab Fours series, with Black Steel close behind and Premium and Matrix right on their heels. Four series, four steady sellers. Each one answers a different owner.
Why Truck Owners Choose Fab Fours
Fab Fours sells protection you can spot from across a parking lot. The fronts cut close to the body, the angles are hard, and a stock truck next to one looks unfinished. On the Cummins and Ford-Trucks owner forums, the word that keeps coming up for this steel is "stout," and the long-term reports back it up: five and seven years of daily work with no rattles and no sag.
A factory bumper is a cover panel; it folds on the first real hit and costs thousands to replace. A Fab Fours bumper is welded steel bolted straight to the frame. It takes the hit and keeps its shape. The truck looks stronger for it. Bolt one on and the truck finally looks finished.
The Six Fab Fours Series, and Who Each One Is For
The right series comes down to two questions: what should the front end do, and what should it say. Half-ton means the F150, Ram 1500, and Silverado or Sierra 1500; three-quarter and one-ton means the F250 and F350, Ram 2500 and 3500, and the HD Silverados and Sierras. Most series offer a choice of face. The no-guard face keeps it clean. A pre-runner guard adds a raised hoop over the center, shielding the grille without wrapping the headlights. A full guard wraps grille and headlights both. And you will find rear bumpers for every series except Matrix and the Grumper.
Black Steel
The ranch classic, and the series that squares up against the traditional grille-guard brands. Black Steel is 14-gauge steel with a diamond-plate face over heavy pipe, gloss black, tow hooks included. A note on gauge: the lower the number, the thicker the plate. All three faces are offered, and the full guard puts real steel in front of your grille and headlights. It is not a winch bumper out of the box, but Fab Fours makes a bolt-in winch tray for it. Pick Black Steel for a work truck, ranch roads, and the classic guard look.
Black Steel Elite
The same ranch silhouette with the diamond plate stripped away. Elite runs thicker 12-gauge steel with a smooth face and a matte black finish, so it reads cleaner next to a standard Black Steel. Tow hooks stay, and the bolt-in winch tray option carries over. Black Steel Elite is for the owner who wants the workhorse shape without the workhorse texture; every Elite fitment sits in the grid on this page.
Vengeance
The look the brand is known for. The Vengeance sits high and tight against the body in 11-gauge steel, with a lower cutout that feeds the radiator and clears bigger tires. The center mounts a 20-inch light bar and each side takes cube lights, the small square off-road lamps. Bar and cubes sell separately. It's also the lightest line Fab Fours builds: compact-truck versions run 66 to 75 pounds, and most full-size versions still come in well under a plate-steel work front. It has one hard limit. No winch. Run Vengeance for the stance and the lights, on a truck that does not need recovery gear.
Matrix
Matrix bridges the two camps. It takes the Vengeance attitude and puts it on 3/16-inch plate, about 7-gauge, the thickest steel Fab Fours runs across a whole bumper. The winch mount is rated for 12,000 pounds. Factory parking sensors carry over on most late-model trucks, the center holds up to a 30-inch light bar, and removable inserts let you change the light setup without changing the bumper. Matrix is a front-bumper line, so pair it with a Premium rear if you want steel at both ends. Matrix is the answer when you want that geometry with a working winch behind it.
Premium
Premium tops the line. It runs the same 3/16-inch plate, with an even thicker quarter-inch plate under the winch, rated up to 16,500 pounds on the heaviest trucks. It also carries the deepest front-and-rear coverage of the winch-ready series. Its signature is the molded light housings that seat 90-millimeter fog lamps and 60-millimeter turn signals flush in the steel, so the biggest bumper Fab Fours sells still looks like part of the truck. Sensor support is strongest on late-model trucks. Pick Premium for maximum capability at both ends of the truck.
The sixth series is the Grumper. It gets its own section below.
The Grumper: Grille and Bumper, One Piece of Steel
Fab Fours invented this category. The Grumper replaces your grille and your front bumper with a single welded piece of steel, one face from headlight to headlight. It is 11-gauge steel with a 3/16-inch winch mount, winch-ready to 12,000 pounds. On full-size trucks, nine removable inserts let you swap grille sections and light covers to change the face without buying another bumper. The Grumper started on the Jeep Wrangler; today the truck versions outnumber the Jeep ones, covering full-size Chevy, GMC, Ford, and Ram pickups plus the Bronco. It doesn't support adaptive cruise, and sensor and camera fit varies by year. Check the fit notes for your exact truck.
What to Know Before You Buy
Fitment. Each bumper is cut for one truck and one year range, and it bolts to the frame with the brackets and hardware in the box; on nearly every fitment there is no cutting or drilling. The steel hangs on the frame, not the body. Weight tracks the series: a daily half-ton wears the lighter Vengeance easily, while full-plate fronts run around 300 pounds and belong on trucks built to carry them. Not sure how much bumper your truck should carry? Ask our team for a straight answer. Plan on a helper for the lift and a few hours in the driveway.
Finish. Every series ships in black powder coat, black only. The difference is the face: gloss diamond plate on Black Steel, smooth matte on the Elite, smooth black across the rest.
Winch. If recovery matters, sort the series by winch first: Premium up to 16,500 pounds on the big trucks, Matrix and Grumper to 12,000, Black Steel and Elite with an add-on tray, Vengeance not at all. It is the fastest way to narrow six series to two.
Lights and sensors. Vengeance and Matrix carry mounts for light bars and cube lights, and the Grumper takes cubes, with bar mounts on some trucks. Matrix and Premium work with factory parking sensors on most late-model trucks; the other series vary year by year. Read the fit notes on the exact bumper.
Value. A Fab Fours bumper is a one-time buy. Most run between $1,050 and $2,700 depending on series and truck. The ranch-style Black Steel lines open the range, and Vengeance and Matrix sit higher. The Grumper spans $1,900 to $3,800, and the biggest Premium winch fronts for the Super Duty reach about $4,100. Behind the steel sits a factory structural warranty, up to limited lifetime with the tier set by series; if the warranty tier matters to your pick, ask before you order. One backing mishap, one job-site hit, and the math settles itself.
Buying and shipping. BumperStock is an authorized Fab Fours dealer, so every bumper arrives new, with the factory warranty intact and free shipping across the lower 48. If you're torn between two series or two year ranges, our team will confirm the fit before you order. Match the series to how you drive, confirm your year, and make the truck unmistakably yours.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are Fab Fours bumpers good quality?
Yes. Every Fab Fours bumper is welded from American steel in Lancaster, South Carolina, and owners who run them hard for years report the same thing: the fit holds, nothing rattles, and the steel shrugs off real work. Warn Industries, the winch maker, bought the company in 2021 and kept production right where it was.
Where are Fab Fours bumpers made?
In Lancaster, South Carolina. Every Fab Fours bumper is made in the USA, welded in the company's own plant from American steel, and it has been that way since Greg Higgs founded the company in 2004.
Which Fab Fours bumpers are winch-ready?
Premium carries the highest rating, up to a 16,500-pound winch on the heaviest trucks. Matrix and the Grumper are winch-ready up to 12,000 pounds. Black Steel and Black Steel Elite take a winch with a bolt-in winch tray. The Vengeance is the one series in this lineup that does not mount a winch.
Which Fab Fours series should I pick for my truck?
Start with two questions: do you want a winch, and what look do you want. If you skip the winch and want it light and aggressive, that is Vengeance. Matrix gives the same attitude with a winch behind it. Premium carries maximum capability front and rear. Black Steel keeps the classic ranch guard, and Elite smooths it into matte black. The Grumper is the boldest front end in the catalog.
What is the Fab Fours Grumper?
The Grumper is a Fab Fours original: one welded piece of steel that replaces both your grille and your front bumper. It is winch-ready, and on full-size trucks nine removable inserts let you change the face of it whenever you want. It started on Jeeps and now covers full-size Chevy, GMC, Ford, and Ram trucks plus the Bronco.
What is the difference between Black Steel and Black Steel Elite?
Both share the ranch-style silhouette. Black Steel is 14-gauge steel with a diamond-plate face in gloss black. Black Steel Elite steps up to thicker 12-gauge steel with a smooth face in matte black, no diamond plate. Same truck coverage, two different characters: classic workhorse or clean and understated.
