Westin: Building Truck Steel Since 1977
Westin Automotive Products opened in 1977 and has spent more than 45 years making steel for trucks. It designs and engineers its bumpers, grille guards, and winch mounts at its California headquarters in San Dimas. The same company owns Superwinch, the winch brand, and supplies push bumpers to police fleets through its public-safety division. Its lineup runs from half-ton pickups to one-ton work trucks, across six truck makes.
Across the trucks we ship, the HDX Bandit is our best-selling Westin series by a wide margin. It sells heaviest on work trucks: the Silverado 2500/3500, Ford F250/F350 Super Duty, and Ram 2500/3500. The lineup reaches well past the heavy-duty crowd, down to half-ton trucks like the Ford F150, midsize trucks like the Tacoma, and the Bronco.
Why Truck Owners Choose Westin
A factory bumper is thin, and it crushes on impact. A Westin grille guard is the steel that goes in front of it, wrapping up over the grille and headlights. Clip a deer at dawn or drag a curb, and the guard takes the hit before it reaches the radiator and the hood behind it. On the HDX Bandit front, that protection comes with a pair of 9,500-pound shackle mounts and a built-in receiver hitch. The same bumper that guards the truck can also pull one out of a ditch.
The other reason owners land on Westin is choice. Want a full grille guard, a clean factory-style replacement, a winch platform, or a stripped-down off-road front? Westin makes it, and it fits trucks the heavy-duty specialists skip. That range comes at mid-tier prices. It's why a lot of shoppers who can't find their exact truck and their style anywhere else find both here.
The Westin Series, and What Each One Is For
Westin splits its bumpers into a handful of series. They come down to two things: how much steel you want up front, and how you want it to look. A quick note on gauge. With steel, a lower number means thicker metal, so 7-gauge is heavy plate and 14-gauge is lighter. On size, half-ton trucks are the F150, Ram 1500, and Silverado 1500; three-quarter and one-ton trucks are the F250/F350, Ram 2500/3500, and the HD Silverado and Sierra. The biggest bumpers go on those heavier trucks.
HDX
HDX is the heavy-duty workhorse. One-piece, fully welded 7-gauge steel, the thickest in the Westin lineup, with 1-inch-thick shackle mounts (the tabs that take a recovery D-ring). On the rear versions, flush-mount LED lights and license-plate lighting are built in. Most HDX bumpers are rears, with a smaller set of winch-ready fronts that take a mid-frame winch. No Westin bumper puts more steel on your truck.
HDX Bandit
Our best seller, and the one with the grille guard. The front Bandit pairs schedule-40 steel pipe wraparound wings (heavy, thick-walled pipe) with a diamond-plate center (the raised-tread steel). Add tubes over the headlights, a built-in 2-inch receiver hitch, and two 9,500-pound shackle mounts for recovery. The matching rear is 11-gauge plate with a corner step for bed access and LED backup lights. If you want grille-guard protection up front with recovery points, the Bandit is the one.
HDX Grille Guard
This one bolts to your frame in front of the factory bumper, with no full replacement needed. Two-inch tube wings wrap around a full punch-plate grille (a steel panel with punched openings) to shield the whole front end, and it comes in black powder coat or polished 304 stainless steel, with a lifetime warranty on the stainless. Want a winch too? The HDX Winch Mount version adds a frame-mounted tray that Westin tests to a 16,500-pound straight-line pull, sized for a mid-frame winch.
Pro-Series
The modern, factory-styled replacement. A slim 10-gauge body keeps the clean lines of a stock bumper. A heavy 1/4-inch center section turns the front into a winch platform, rated for synthetic-rope winches up to 12,000 pounds. It works with blind-spot monitors and parking sensors, and the rear is a matched low-profile bumper. Pro-Series is for the owner who wants a winch and a factory look, not a cage.
Pro-Mod
The off-road front for approach angle, the room to climb over an obstacle without scraping the bumper. Ten-gauge steel in a high, tight, modular shape that clears the ground better on the trail. It ships in a smaller box because it bolts together in your driveway. It runs a center slot for a 30- or 40-inch light bar and shares a bolt-on skid plate (the under-bumper shield) with the Outlaw. Trail truck, no winch up front.
Outlaw
Outlaw runs a 14-gauge tube frame, the lightest steel Westin builds, with integrated mounts for a 30-inch LED light bar and the most aggressive stance in the range. It fits smaller trucks like the Tacoma as readily as a full-size, and takes the same skid plate as the Pro-Mod. Pre-runner stance (the desert-truck look), light-bar ready, light off-road duty.
Between them, the HDX family carries the grille guards and the heavy 7-gauge steel, while Pro-Series, Pro-Mod, and Outlaw cover the modern, off-road, and lighter styles. The plain HDX front is a low-profile winch-ready bumper, and the Bandit is the HDX front that adds the full grille guard. Most bolt on as a direct replacement and keep the factory look where you want it.
Westin Grille Guards
The grille guard is the piece Westin is known for. It's the steel that stands in front of everything else. A full wraparound frame, tubes over the headlights, and a punch-plate face across the grille, all bolted to the truck frame ahead of the factory bumper. Some shoppers come in looking for a bull bar, the single low bar across the grille. A grille guard is the bigger version of that, with more coverage and more steel over the headlights, and it's what Westin builds. You get it in black powder coat or polished 304 stainless, and the winch-mount version turns the same guard into a recovery front end. Either way, you add protection without replacing the bumper underneath.
What to Know Before You Buy
Fitment. Each Westin bumper is cut for one specific truck and year range. The fit is exact, not universal. It bolts on with the brackets and hardware in the box, with no cutting or drilling on most fitments. A full steel bumper is a two-person lift.
Finish. Most Westin bumpers wear a textured black powder coat over an electrostatic e-coat base, the same rust-resistant base coat used under automotive paint. The HDX Grille Guard also comes in polished 304 stainless steel, a grade that does not rust, needs no coating, and carries a lifetime warranty.
Lights and sensors. Many Westin fronts take LED light bars or auxiliary lights, and HDX rears include flush-mount LEDs and license-plate lighting. A grille guard can cover front parking sensors or radar cruise control on many trucks. Check the fit notes for your year. Some fitments keep your factory fog lights.
Value. Westin sits in the mid-tier. You get real steel and wide truck coverage at a price under the heavy-duty specialists. Most Westin bumpers run from about $1,140 to $2,130. A standalone HDX grille guard starts around $1,150 in black, or about $2,000 in polished stainless. For a full steel front end, that is a lot of bumper for the money.
Buying and shipping. BumperStock is an authorized Westin dealer. Every bumper ships new with its full factory warranty against manufacturing defects, and the polished stainless grille guard carries a lifetime warranty. Shipping is free across the lower 48. Westin holds its dealers to one price, so you pay the same price either way. Pick your truck from the menu above to see the series and exact years that fit it. If you're not sure which is right, our team can confirm your fitment before you order. Then reinforce the front of your truck.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are Westin bumpers a good brand?
Westin has built truck steel since 1977, and it runs one of the broadest lineups in the business, from grille guards to full bumper replacements. It designs and engineers its bumpers at its California headquarters, owns the Superwinch winch brand, and supplies push bumpers to police fleets through its public-safety division. Its bumpers use e-coated steel under a powder-coat finish and carry a warranty, and the HDX Bandit is one of our best-selling Westin bumpers. For a mid-priced steel bumper with wide truck coverage, it is a solid, proven choice.
What is the difference between Westin HDX and Pro-Series?
HDX is the heavy-duty line: one-piece 7-gauge steel, the thickest Westin uses, made up of heavy rear bumpers, winch-ready fronts, and matching grille guards for work and recovery. Pro-Series is the modern, factory-styled line: a slimmer 10-gauge body that keeps stock lines while adding a winch mount rated to 12,000 pounds. Choose HDX for maximum steel and a guarded front end, and Pro-Series for a clean factory look with winch capability.
Will a Westin grille guard block my parking sensors or cruise control?
On many trucks it can. A full grille guard sits in front of the factory bumper, so on trucks with front parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, or forward-collision radar, it often covers or interferes with them. Some Westin bumper fitments include sensor provisions, but a full grille guard usually sits ahead of them. Check the fit notes on your exact year and truck before you order, and our team can confirm it for you.
Can you mount a winch on a Westin bumper?
Yes, on the winch-ready models. The Pro-Series front bumper carries a heavy 1/4-inch mount rated for synthetic-rope winches up to 12,000 pounds, and the HDX Winch Mount Grille Guard adds a frame-mounted tray tested to a 16,500-pound straight-line pull. The HDX Bandit front is a grille guard rather than a winch bumper. If a winch is the goal, start with the Pro-Series or the winch-mount grille guard.
What is the difference between a grille guard and a bull bar?
A grille guard is the full cage: it wraps around the grille and up over the headlights, bolted to the frame in front of your bumper. A bull bar is smaller, a single bar low across the grille, with less coverage and a lower profile. Both add front-end protection without replacing the bumper. Westin's design is the full wraparound grille guard, and it comes in black powder coat or polished stainless steel.
Will a Westin bumper fit my truck?
Most likely. Westin covers more makes and models than almost any bumper brand, from Ford, Ram, Chevy, and GMC to Toyota and Nissan, and across half-ton, heavy-duty, and midsize trucks. Each bumper is cut for a specific truck and year range and bolts on with the brackets in the box. Pick your truck from the menu above to see the Westin series and exact years that fit it, and our team can confirm your fitment before you order.
