Updated June 2026. Fitment data verified against supplier listings.
Ram 1500 fitment is its own animal. Five generations span 1994 to 2026, and starting in 2019 two of them sell side by side as the Ram 1500 Classic and the Ram 1500 DT. Same year on the dashboard, two completely different bumper mounts. This guide walks every one.

Ram 1500 bumpers leave our suppliers' docks every business day, and the Classic-or-DT call is the most common fitment question we field on this truck.
Our Ram 1500 bench leans heaviest on Fab Fours and Ranch Hand across the 2nd through 4th-gen runs, with Hammerhead and Frontier filling out steel-grille options across the same era. Addictive Desert Designs takes the lead for 5th-gen DT trucks where the heavier electrical work matters most.

Which Ram 1500 Bumper Fits Your Truck?
Find your year in the table. Bumpers are compatible only within the listed range unless noted.
| Years | Generation | Body / Platform | Compatible With |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1994-2001 | 2nd gen (BR/BE) | Steel body, BR/BE platform | 1994-2001 only |
| 2002-2005 | 3rd gen (DR) | Steel body, full DR redesign | 2002-2005 only |
| 2006-2008 | 3rd gen facelift | Steel, restyled front fascia | 2006-2008 (most fronts will not cross to 2002-2005) |
| 2009-2012 | 4th gen (DS) pre-facelift | Steel, new DS platform | 2009-2012 (most), partial cross to 2013-2018 |
| 2013-2018 | 4th gen (DS) facelift | Steel, DS continued, restyled | 2013-2018 (most), partial cross to 2009-2012 |
| 2019-2024 | Ram 1500 Classic (DS continued) | Steel, same DS platform as 2013-2018 | 2013-2018 mostly cross-compat |
| 2019-2026 | 5th gen (DT, new body) | Steel, all-new DT platform | 2019-2026 DT only. Does NOT cross to Classic |
Two terms you will see below. Platform codes like BR/BE, DR, DS, and DT are Ram's internal engineering names for each truck generation. We use them so you can match parts catalogs and OEM listings without guessing. CANBUS is the electronic wiring network that lets your modern truck's electronics talk to each other. Some aftermarket bumpers for 2013 and newer trucks need a CANBUS adapter to plug in auxiliary lights without triggering dashboard error codes.
The Ram trap: From 2019 to 2024, two Ram 1500s sold at the same time. The Ram 1500 Classic keeps the old 4th-gen DS body. The Ram 1500 (no "Classic" badge) is the all-new 5th-gen DT. Their bumpers do not interchange. Check the badge on the tailgate or the grille shape before ordering.
1994-2001 Ram 1500 (2nd Generation, BR/BE)

| Years covered | 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 |
|---|---|
| Cross-compat | All 8 years interchange within gen |
| Body | Steel, BR/BE platform |
| Sensors | None factory |
| Camera | None factory |
| Top brand in stock | Fab Fours, Ranch Hand |
The 2nd gen is the truck that redefined the Ram nameplate. Launched in 1994 with the big rig front-end styling, big-shoulders fenders, and the optional Cummins diesel. Steel everywhere. No sensors, no camera, no CANBUS. Bumper mounting is straight bolt-on to a steel frame channel.
A 2nd-gen bumper will not bolt to a 2002 or later truck. The 3rd gen brought the DR platform and a full redesign of the front clip. Aftermarket selection for 1994-2001 trucks is solid, especially in the heavy-duty grille-guard and replacement bumper categories. Ranch Hand and Fab Fours both carry stock here.
Pitfalls in this gen:
- 1994 and early 1995 trucks may have minor mounting bracket differences from later 1995-2001 production. Verify by VIN before ordering.
- "Dodge Ram" badging on 1994-2010 trucks. The Ram brand split from Dodge in 2010 model year. Bumpers fit by platform year, not by badge.
- SRT-10 (2004-2006) is a 3rd-gen truck with a wide-body kit and the 8.3L Viper V10. It does not use standard Ram 1500 bumpers and runs its own fitment line.

2002-2005 Ram 1500 (3rd Generation, DR)

| Years covered | 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 |
|---|---|
| Cross-compat | All 4 years interchange within gen |
| Body | Steel, DR platform |
| Sensors | None factory |
| Camera | None factory |
| Top brand in stock | Fab Fours, Ranch Hand |
The 3rd gen launched for 2002 with the DR platform. Full redesign over the 2nd gen. New frame, new sheet metal, new bumper bolt pattern. The 2002-2005 production run shares one bumper interface across all four model years.
3rd-gen bumpers will not fit any other generation. The 2006 model year brought a facelift that changed the front fascia. Most fronts from 2002-2005 will not transfer to 2006-2008 trucks even though both are 3rd gen. Rear bumpers carry across more cleanly. Aftermarket inventory in this range is light. Most suppliers moved focus to the 4th gen years ago.
Watch outs:
- 2004-2006 SRT-10 uses a wide-body kit and does not accept standard Ram 1500 bumpers. SRT-10 has its own fitment line.
- 2005 trucks sometimes get confused with 2006 trucks at the dealer. Check the headlights. 2002-2005 has rectangular quad lights. 2006-2008 has the chrome crosshair grille and updated headlight cluster.
- Quad Cab vs Regular Cab does not affect front bumper fitment in this gen. Rear bumpers may split SKU by bed length on certain heavy-duty options.

2006-2008 Ram 1500 (3rd Generation Facelift, DR/DH)

| Years covered | 2006, 2007, 2008 |
|---|---|
| Cross-compat | 2006-2008 interchange within sub-gen. Most fronts will NOT cross to 2002-2005 |
| Body | Steel, DR/DH platform with restyled front fascia |
| Sensors | Optional on high-trim packages |
| Camera | None factory |
| Top brand in stock | Fab Fours, Ranch Hand |
The 2006 model year refreshed the 3rd gen with a new grille, restyled headlights, and a redesigned front bumper face. Platform stayed DR (with DH on heavier trims), but the front-end sheet metal changed enough that most 2002-2005 bumpers will not transfer. Inside 2006-2008, all three model years share one front and rear bumper interface.
3rd-gen facelift bumpers will not bolt to 2009 or later trucks. The 4th gen brought the DS platform in 2009, with a complete frame and front-end redesign. High-trim Laramie packages in 2007-2008 introduced factory parking sensors as an option. Most aftermarket fronts in this range pass them through cleanly. Verify the cutout on the SKU.
Common pitfalls:
- 2006 is the cleanest cutoff in the 3rd-gen run. A 2005 front bumper looks similar but will not align with the 2006 fascia. Order by year.
- TRX4 off-road package (2007-2008) does not affect front bumper fitment. Standard 3rd-gen facelift bumpers fit TRX4 trucks.
- Some 2008 Laramie trucks shipped with a heavier-duty front frame (called the DH platform internally). Standard DR fronts still fit, but heavy-duty steel fronts may have a tighter fit. Test-fit before painting.

2009-2012 Ram 1500 (4th Generation Pre-Facelift, DS)

| Years covered | 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 |
|---|---|
| Cross-compat | All 4 years interchange. Partial cross to 2013-2018 (verify per SKU) |
| Body | Steel, DS platform (all-new for 2009) |
| Sensors | Optional on Laramie, Limited |
| Camera | Optional on Laramie+ |
| Top brand in stock | Fab Fours, Ranch Hand, Addictive Desert Designs |
The 4th gen launched for 2009 on the all-new DS platform. Coil-spring rear suspension, RamBox bed storage option, and a complete redesign of the front clip. This is also the generation that carried Ram through the Dodge-to-Ram brand split. 2009-2010 trucks wore "Dodge Ram" badges. 2011 model year switched to the standalone "Ram" brand. The bumpers stayed the same across the badge change.
4th-gen pre-facelift bumpers mostly carry over to the 2013 facelift, but Stellantis split SKUs on some fronts when the 2013 grille and bumper face restyled. Read the fitment table per product. None of these will fit a 2008 or earlier truck. The DS platform changed the front frame beams (the steel arms a bumper bolts to), the bolt pattern, and the bumper-to-frame interface.
Where buyers slip:
- 2011 was the first Ram-only year (no Dodge badge). Same DS platform as 2009-2010. Bumpers do not care about the badge change.
- Laramie and Laramie Longhorn trucks with factory parking sensors need sensor-compatible aftermarket fronts. Standard fronts may trigger dash warnings.
- RamBox-equipped trucks have wider bed sides. Front bumper fitment is not affected. Rear bumpers must clear the RamBox latch sweep.

2013-2018 Ram 1500 (4th Generation Facelift, DS)

| Years covered | 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 |
|---|---|
| Cross-compat | All 6 years interchange. Partial cross to 2009-2012 (verify per SKU) |
| Body | Steel, DS platform continued, restyled front fascia |
| Sensors | Standard on Laramie and above |
| Camera | Standard on Laramie+ |
| Top brand in stock | Fab Fours, Ranch Hand, Hammerhead |
The 2013 model year refreshed the 4th gen with a new grille, new headlights, and a restyled front bumper. Platform stayed DS, mechanicals stayed familiar, and the new EcoDiesel V6 arrived for 2014. The 2013-2018 run is the deepest aftermarket catalog of any Ram generation, since these trucks sold in volume and most are still on the road today.
This is also the body that survived past its own retirement. When the 5th gen DT launched for 2019, Stellantis kept the DS body in production as the Ram 1500 Classic. So a 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, or 2024 Ram 1500 Classic uses the same bumper mounts as a 2013-2018 Ram 1500. Their fitment is identical. The badge on the tailgate is the cleanest visual check: "Ram 1500 Classic" is the DS body. "Ram 1500" without the Classic badge is the new DT.
Watch outs:
- 2013 was the visual refresh year. Most front bumper SKUs cover 2013-2018 cleanly, but a handful of suppliers split 2013 from 2014-2018 based on minor grille and tow-hook bracket changes. Verify per product.
- Sport Package trucks have a body-color bumper integrated with the lower fascia. Replacing with a heavy-duty steel front means removing the Sport lower fascia. Plan for that before ordering.
- Mega Cab trucks share the front bumper with Crew Cab. Rear bumper SKUs may split by cab and bed length on certain heavy-duty configurations.

2019-2026 Ram 1500 (5th Generation DT + Ram 1500 Classic Overlap)

| Years covered | 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026 |
|---|---|
| Cross-compat | DT 2019-2026 interchange within gen. DT does NOT cross to Ram 1500 Classic (2019-2024) |
| Body | Steel, all-new DT platform |
| Sensors | Standard all trims |
| Camera | Mandatory (FMVSS 111) |
| CANBUS | Heavy. Wiring integration required for accessories |
| Top brand in stock | Addictive Desert Designs, Fab Fours, Ranch Hand |
The 5th gen DT launched for 2019 with a completely new platform. New frame, new front clip, multi-link coil rear, and a much heavier electrical system. CANBUS runs through everything, including the bumper accessory circuit. Aftermarket bumpers for DT trucks need to handle that. ADD carries the broadest selection in this segment. (Wikipedia covers the Ram 1500 generation history and the Classic overlap in detail. Ram's current 1500 model page covers active DT trims.)
Here is the part that trips buyers up. From 2019 to 2024, Stellantis sold two trucks side by side: the new DT (Ram 1500) and the continued DS body (Ram 1500 Classic). A 2020 Ram 1500 Classic and a 2020 Ram 1500 DT are not the same truck. They use different bumper mounts. The DT bumpers in this section will not bolt to a Classic. The Classic uses the 2013-2018 fitment listed in the previous section. Always check the badge. "Ram 1500 Classic" = DS = use the 2013-2018 section above. "Ram 1500" (no Classic) = DT = use this section.
Common pitfalls:
- Classic vs DT is the canonical Ram fitment trap. Same model year, two trucks. The Classic was sold from 2019 through 2024 as a fleet-friendly alternative to the higher-priced DT. Bumpers do not cross.
- Rebel and TRX trims use standard DT front fitment but have wider stance, larger fenders, and skid-plate hardware that some aftermarket fronts will not clear without modification. Verify the SKU spec.
- CANBUS wiring is tricky. Many aftermarket fronts need a CANBUS adapter or compatibility kit for auxiliary lighting to avoid dashboard error codes. Most reputable vendors ship the adapter or include wiring instructions for DT trucks.

Sensors, Cameras and CANBUS Across Ram 1500 Generations
This is the consolidated reference. Match your generation row, then verify your bumper SKU supports the listed factory features.
| Generation | Park Sensors | Backup Camera | CANBUS | Winch-Ready Mounting |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2nd 1994-2001 (BR/BE) | None | None | None | Aftermarket only |
| 3rd 2002-2005 (DR) | None | None | None | Aftermarket only |
| 3rd facelift 2006-2008 | Optional high-trim | None | None | Aftermarket |
| 4th 2009-2012 (DS) | Optional Laramie/Limited | Optional Laramie+ | Limited | Most aftermarket |
| 4th facelift 2013-2018 (DS) | Standard Laramie+ | Standard Laramie+ | Yes | Most aftermarket |
| Ram 1500 Classic 2019-2024 (DS) | Standard Laramie+ | Mandatory | Yes | Most aftermarket |
| 5th 2019-2026 (DT) | Standard all trims | Mandatory | Yes (heavy) | Most aftermarket |
Any 2018 or later Ram 1500 must have a working backup camera. FMVSS 111 made it federal law on May 1, 2018. Aftermarket rear bumpers for 2018+ trucks ship with camera cutouts standard.
Every cell in the tables above traces back to the manufacturer spec sheet and the supplier's product listing we draw from. Cross-check your year, trim, and VIN against the individual product page before you commit, and reach out if anything reads off.
Common Ram 1500 Fitment Mistakes
-
Ordering a "2020 Ram 1500" bumper without checking Classic vs DT. They share the model year. They do not share a single bumper mount. Read the badge on the tailgate before you order.
-
Treating a 2005 truck and a 2006 truck as the same gen. Both are 3rd gen, but the 2006 facelift changed the front fascia and most front bumpers do not cross. Order by year, not by gen label alone.
-
Assuming all 4th gen DS (2009-2018) bumpers interchange freely. The 2013 facelift restyled the grille and bumper face. Some SKUs split 2009-2012 from 2013-2018. Read the fitment table.
-
Skipping the camera cutout on a 2018+ truck. Backup cameras are mandatory by federal law (FMVSS 111). Your rear bumper must accommodate it. Camera-delete is not road-legal.
-
Mixing up the SRT-10 (2004-2006) with a standard 3rd-gen Ram 1500. The SRT-10 uses a wide-body kit and runs its own bumper line. A standard 3rd-gen bumper will not match the SRT-10 stance.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is my 2019 Ram 1500 a Classic or a new body?
Check the tailgate badge. If it reads "Ram 1500 Classic," it is the 4th-gen DS body continued from 2013-2018. If it reads "Ram 1500" without the Classic suffix, it is the all-new 5th-gen DT. Their bumpers do not interchange. Stellantis sold both side by side from 2019 through 2024.
Will a 2018 Ram 1500 bumper fit a 2019 Ram 1500 Classic?
Yes in most cases. The Ram 1500 Classic is the 4th-gen DS body continued unchanged from 2013-2018. Most 2013-2018 front and rear bumpers carry over directly to the 2019-2024 Classic. Verify the SKU notes for Classic compatibility.
Will a 2018 Ram 1500 bumper fit a 2019 Ram 1500 (non-Classic)?
No. The non-Classic 2019 Ram 1500 is the all-new 5th-gen DT with a redesigned frame and front clip. None of the 4th-gen DS bumpers transfer to DT trucks.
Will a 4th gen Ram bumper fit on a 3rd gen?
No. The 4th gen launched in 2009 on the DS platform with a new frame, new front clip, and a new bolt pattern. None of the 2002-2008 3rd-gen bumpers transfer to 2009+ DS trucks.
Are Dodge Ram bumpers interchangeable across generations?
No. Each generation has its own bumper mounting interface. The 2nd gen (1994-2001), 3rd gen (2002-2008), 4th gen DS (2009-2018 plus Classic 2019-2024), and 5th gen DT (2019-2026) all use different bolt patterns. The 2006 facelift inside the 3rd gen also splits front bumper fitment.
What year did Ram split from Dodge?
Calendar year 2010, effective for the 2011 model year. 2009-2010 trucks wore "Dodge Ram" badges. 2011 and later wear "Ram" alone. The platform did not change at the brand split, so 2010 and 2011 trucks use the same 4th-gen DS bumpers.
What generation is a 2024 Ram 1500?
Depends on the badge. A 2024 Ram 1500 Classic is the 4th-gen DS body. A 2024 Ram 1500 (no Classic) is the 5th-gen DT. Stellantis ended Classic production in 2024.
Do I need a camera-compatible bumper for my Ram 1500?
Yes if your truck is a 2018 or later. FMVSS 111 made backup cameras mandatory on all vehicles under 10,000 lbs starting May 1, 2018. Any aftermarket rear bumper for a 2018+ Ram 1500 (DS, Classic, or DT) must include a camera cutout.
