Start with the body cladding
The Avalanche came two ways. The cladded trucks wear gray textured panels along the lower body and bumpers. The WBH trucks skip the cladding for a clean, body-color front. Ranch Hand fits the WBH version only.
Here is how the years line up. Every 2002 Avalanche was cladded, so none of these fit a 2002. From 2003 to 2006 the truck came both ways, and Ranch Hand fits the ones without cladding. From 2007 to 2013 the cladding was gone, so all of those trucks fit the Legend guard.
Check your lower front before you order. Gray plastic cladding means these will not fit. A clean, painted lower front means you are set.
Two ways to protect the front
Summit front bumper. This replaces your factory front bumper with full-face steel and a wraparound guard over the grille and headlights. It is the heaviest option at 209 pounds, and it fits 2003-2006 WBH trucks. Plan to remove the factory tow hooks during the install. A body lift changes the fit, so this bumper will not work on a lifted Avalanche. Choose the Summit when you want the most front coverage and a full bumper swap.
Legend grille guard. This bolts to the frame in front of your factory bumper, so the bumper stays put. It is 12-gauge steel tubing. A lower gauge number means thicker steel. The whole guard is welded into one piece, so it does not rattle, and it shields the grille and front end. It keeps the factory tow hooks and fog lights. It does not keep front parking sensors, so a truck with front park assist will lose that feature. Ranch Hand makes the guard for 2003-2006 WBH trucks at 118 pounds and for 2007-2013 trucks at 99 pounds. It is the lighter, simpler way to add front protection.
Both pieces carry real weight, so have a second person help you set them in place. Want to see how every brand stacks up on this truck? The full Chevy Avalanche bumpers page lists them all.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will a Ranch Hand bumper fit my 2002 Chevy Avalanche?
No. Every 2002 Avalanche came with the gray body cladding, and Ranch Hand does not fit the cladded trucks. Their Avalanche fit starts with the 2003 model year and covers the versions without cladding. A 2002 will not work with the Summit bumper or the Legend grille guard.
Will a Silverado 1500 bumper fit my Avalanche?
For a 2003-2006 Avalanche, yes. Those trucks share their front end with the Chevy Silverado 1500 of the same years, so the fit overlaps. The 2007-2013 Avalanche shares its front more with the Tahoe and Suburban. Either way, order from this page to keep the fit guaranteed. To see the full Silverado 1500 lineup, check the Ranch Hand Silverado 1500 page.
Does Ranch Hand make a rear bumper for the Avalanche?
No. For the Avalanche, Ranch Hand builds front-end protection only: the Summit front bumper and the Legend grille guard. It does not offer an Avalanche rear bumper.
