Ford F250 Super Duty with an aftermarket steel front bumper installed - BumperStock

Updated May 2026. Fitment data verified against supplier listings.

Super Duty buyers do not shop bumpers casually. The truck plows, tows, hauls, and runs commercial routes for owners who need the front and rear end to take the same loads the rest of the truck takes. Five Super Duty generations span 1999 to 2026, and inside that run, the F450 and F550 chassis cab line sits on the same platforms with its own bumper-bracket quirks. This guide walks every year.

Every business day a Super Duty bumper rolls off one of our suppliers' lines, and the 2010-to-2011 P473 jump is the fitment ask we hear more than any other on this truck. Across the Super Duty lineup, Ranch Hand and Fab Fours anchor the heavy-duty steel category, Hammerhead and Frontier carry the steel grille-guard counts, Addictive Desert Designs leads on the P558 and P708 modern builds, and Warn handles winch-mount fronts for owners running recovery rigs.

Which Super Duty Bumper Fits Your Truck?

Find your year in the table. Bumpers are compatible only within the listed range unless noted.

Years Generation Body / Platform Compatible With
1999-2004 1st gen pre-facelift Steel, PHN131 platform 1999-2004 only
2005-2007 1st gen facelift Steel, PHN131 with restyled front 2005-2007 mostly. Most fronts will NOT cross to 1999-2004
2008-2010 2nd gen Steel, P356 platform 2008-2010 only
2011-2016 3rd gen Steel, strengthened frame, P473 platform 2011-2016 only
2017-2022 4th gen Aluminum body, P558 platform 2017-2022 only
2023-2026 5th gen Aluminum body, P708 platform 2023-2026 only

Heads up: A 2010 bumper will NOT bolt to a 2011. A 2016 bumper will NOT bolt to a 2017. A 2022 bumper will NOT bolt to a 2023. These are the three hard breaks every Super Duty buyer should know up front.

Exception: Rear bumpers across the 1st generation (1999-2007) share mounting points and cross-fit between years. The 2005 facelift restyled the front clip only. Some aftermarket suppliers extend the rear cross-fit further through 2016, so always check the SKU notes for your specific year.

Pre-1999 F250/F350? That truck is the OBS-era F-Series HD, not a Super Duty. OBS stands for Old Body Style, the body Ford used on F250 and F350 trucks before the Super Duty redesign launched. The Super Duty nameplate did not exist before 1999. OBS bumpers do not cross to any Super Duty. Shop 1992-1998 Ford F250/F350 OBS bumpers separately.

Two terms you will see below. Platform codes like PHN131, P356, P473, P558, and P708 are Ford's internal engineering names for each Super Duty generation. We use them so you can match parts catalogs and OEM listings without guessing. CANBUS is the digital wiring backbone that ties your truck's modules together. On 2011 and newer Super Dutys, aftermarket bumpers carrying auxiliary lighting often need a CANBUS-friendly adapter so the dashboard stays clear of error codes.

The Super Duty has two big cutoffs. First is 2011, when the 3rd gen launched on the P473 platform with a new front clip, a strengthened frame, and the all-new 6.7L Powerstroke. A "front clip" is the entire front-end section of the truck: grille, headlights, fender ends, and the brackets where the bumper bolts on. When the front clip changes, the bumper does too. A 2010 bumper does not bolt to a 2011. Second is 2017, when Ford switched the Super Duty cab and bed to 6000-series aluminum on the P558 platform. A 2016 bumper does not bolt to a 2017. These are the two biggest fitment breaks in the Super Duty's history, and they are the questions we field most often.

The Super Duty nameplate launched in January 1998 as a 1999 model year truck. Ford built it as a dedicated heavy-duty platform separate from the F150, with no shared visible parts except the taillamps and the tailgate. The PHN131 chassis brought the 7.3L Powerstroke diesel, a stout steel frame, and three cab configurations to a market that until then had only the OBS F-Series HD trucks. Inside the 1999-2004 run, all six model years use the same front and rear bumper mounting.

A 1999-2004 bumper will not bolt to a 2005 or later truck without serious fabrication. The 2005 facelift restyled the grille, the front bumper, and the headlights, and most fronts split SKUs at that point. Aftermarket inventory on the early Super Duty is solid because the trucks still earn their keep on ranches and job sites two decades on. Shop 1999-2004 Ford Super Duty bumpers.

Pitfalls in this gen:

  • The 7.3L Powerstroke diesel ran through 2003. The 6.0L Powerstroke arrived for 2003.5 and ran through 2007. Engine year does not affect bumper fitment, but it does affect lower air-dam clearance on some aftermarket fronts.
  • 1999 production trucks had minor mounting bracket differences from 2000-2004 trucks on a handful of supplier SKUs. Verify by VIN if your truck is a very early 1999.
  • F450 and F550 chassis cabs share the PHN131 platform but use different brackets on most bumpers. Skip ahead to the F450/F550 section if your truck is a chassis cab.
  • Install time on this gen runs about 2 to 3 hours for a DIY swap, since there are no sensors or cameras to relocate and the wiring is straightforward. The factory rear trailer plug is bumper-mounted and must transfer to the new bumper.

The 2005 model year refreshed the 1st-gen Super Duty with a new grille inspired by Ford's Mighty F350 Tonka concept, a redesigned front bumper, and a new headlight cluster. Ford also made four-wheel disc brakes standard and updated the Triton gasoline engines. Platform stayed PHN131, but the front-clip restyle was deep enough that most 1999-2004 front bumpers will not transfer. Inside 2005-2007, the three model years use the same front and rear bumper interface.

2005-2007 bumpers will not bolt to 2008 or later trucks. The 2nd gen P356 brought a new front clip in 2008. Within the 2005-2007 sub-gen, the heavy steel grille-guard category runs deepest, with Ranch Hand anchoring the shelf for working trucks. Plow operators, oil-field rigs, and ranch trucks from this run still drive the steady aftermarket demand. Shop 2005-2007 Ford Super Duty bumpers.

Watch outs:

  • 2007 is the last year for the 6.0L Powerstroke diesel. The 6.4L arrived for 2008 with the 2nd-gen redesign. Bumper fitment is set by body year, not engine year.
  • Higher trims in 2005-2007 began offering factory parking sensors. Most aftermarket fronts pass them through cleanly. Verify the cutout if your truck is a Lariat or King Ranch.
  • The 2005-2007 fronts and the 1999-2004 fronts look similar at a glance, but the 2005 grille shape is noticeably wider with a chunky three-bar look. The 1999-2004 grille is a tighter rectangular grid. If your truck has the Tonka-style grille, you are in the 2005-2007 sub-gen.
  • 2007 and 2008 look completely different up front. On a 2008, the grille is much wider and squarer, and the headlights jump up to larger rectangular units with chrome surrounds. If your truck has the chunky three-bar Tonka grille, you are still in the 2005-2007 era.

The 2nd-gen Super Duty launched for 2008 on the P356 platform. Ford originally planned the redesign for 2007 but pushed it to 2008 to clear quality issues. The new truck brought a fully restyled exterior, a redesigned interior, and the all-new 6.4L Powerstroke diesel. Ford SYNC became available in 2009. Ford reworked the bolt pattern at the front frame beams (the steel arms a bumper bolts to), so nothing from the 1st gen carries over.

2nd-gen bumpers will not bolt to 2011 or later trucks. The 3rd-gen P473 brought another full front-clip redesign in 2011. Inside 2008-2010, all three model years share one bumper interface. Aftermarket inventory for this gen is solid but lighter than the 3rd gen that followed, partly because the 6.4L Powerstroke had a short three-year run. Shop 2008-2010 Ford Super Duty bumpers.

Where buyers slip:

  • 2010 is the last year of the 6.4L Powerstroke. A 2010 bumper looks similar to a 2011 at a quick glance, but the 2011 P473 front clip is wider and the bolt pattern is different. They do not cross.
  • Cameras and sensors became optional on Lariat and higher trims starting 2009. Higher-trim trucks need sensor-compatible aftermarket fronts to keep the dash quiet.
  • F450 and F550 chassis cabs in this gen used the P356 platform but kept their own bumper bracket spacing on most SKUs. See the chassis cab section below.

The 3rd gen launched for 2011 on the P473 platform with a much bigger front fascia (the painted face panel above the bumper and under the grille), a new grille, and a fully restyled cab. Two powertrain changes anchored the gen. Ford rolled out the 6.2L Boss gasoline V8 and the all-new 6.7L Powerstroke, the first diesel engine designed in-house by Ford. The frame kept the 1999-era architecture but was strengthened across the board. Six clean model years run on one bumper interface, and the 2011-2016 shelf is the deepest we stock across the Super Duty line.

P473 bumpers will not fit a 2010 or earlier truck. The new front clip changed how the bumper bolts to the frame and the bolt pattern. They also will not fit a 2017 or later truck because the 4th-gen P558 brought the aluminum body and another front-clip redesign. Inside 2011-2016, no mid-cycle facelift broke fitment. A 2011 bumper and a 2016 bumper bolt to the same mounts. Shop 2011-2016 Ford Super Duty bumpers.

Common pitfalls:

  • This is the most-asked Super Duty fitment break. A 2010 F250 bumper will not bolt to a 2011 F250. The trucks look related at a quick glance but use a different front clip.
  • Tell a 2010 from a 2011 by the grille. On a 2011 the grille is dramatically taller and squarer, with two big vertical chrome blocks dominating the front (the aggressive Mack-truck look). 2008-2010 trucks have a tighter grille with horizontal chrome bars and a more conservative chrome surround. If your truck has the huge two-block grille, it is a 2011-2016.
  • King Ranch and Platinum trims ship with the deeper sensor and camera packages. Most aftermarket fronts in this range include sensor-pass cutouts; verify the SKU.
  • 6.7L Powerstroke trucks have a different lower air-dam routing than 6.2L gas trucks. Some off-road bumpers need clearance tweaks for the diesel airflow.

The 4th gen launched for 2017 on the P558 platform with the biggest body change in Super Duty history. Ford moved the cab and bed to 6000-series aluminum alloy, kept the frame in 95% high-strength steel, and pulled up to 350 pounds out of the truck despite adding heavier-duty content. This was also the first time since 1996 that the Super Duty cab shared sheet metal with the F150. (Wikipedia covers the Super Duty generation history and the aluminum transition in detail.) The headlights got pulled into a wider two-bar grille, and the front bumper face changed completely. Nothing from the 2011-2016 P473 era carries over.

The 2020 model year brought a powertrain refresh inside the 4th gen, but it did not change the front clip. Ford added the 7.3L Godzilla gas V8, bumped the 6.7L Powerstroke to 475 horsepower and 1,050 lb-ft, and made the 10R140 10-speed automatic standard on diesel F250s and all F350 powertrains. Bumper fitment did not split at 2020. A 2017 bumper and a 2022 bumper share one interface across the run.

FMVSS 111 made backup cameras federal law on May 1, 2018, for vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) under 10,000 lbs. Most F250 base configurations sit right at that cutoff, so cameras are standard on the lot. F350 dual-rear-wheel, F450, and F550 chassis cabs typically run above 10,000 lbs GVWR and are not subject to the federal mandate. Cameras still ship factory on most modern trucks regardless.

Shop 2017-2022 Ford Super Duty bumpers.

Pitfalls in this gen:

  • This is the aluminum cutoff. A 2016 P473 front bumper will not bolt to a 2017 P558. The front clip, bolt pattern, and cab structure are all different even though both wear the Super Duty badge.
  • Tell a 2016 from a 2017 by the grille and headlights. On a 2017 the grille is wider and lower-profile, and the headlights pull into a more connected horizontal shape across the front. 2011-2016 trucks have the much taller, blocky two-block grille and standalone rectangular headlight pods. If the headlights look connected to the grille, it is a 2017-2022.
  • 2020 refresh trucks are still 4th gen P558. The 7.3L Godzilla and 10R140 transmission added powertrain content but did not restyle the front. A 2017 bumper SKU bolts to a 2022 truck.
  • Tremor off-road package on 2020-2022 trucks adds a heavier-duty front skid plate. Some aftermarket fronts cannot clear it without trimming. Verify Tremor fitment per SKU.
  • Install time on this gen runs about 3 to 5 hours for the bumper itself, plus 15 to 30 minutes if you are relocating the front camera. Do NOT wire auxiliary lights into the factory fog circuit on these trucks. The CANBUS will trigger errors or shut the circuit down. Use a relay harness pulled directly off the battery and trigger it with the factory upfitter switches.

The 5th gen launched for 2023 on the P708 platform. Ford carried the aluminum body forward, restyled the front fascia again with a taller grille and reworked headlights, and rebuilt the wiring for accessory CANBUS integration. The 6.7L Powerstroke High Output rating moved up again, and the 6.8L gas V8 replaced the older 6.2L Boss on base trims. (Ford's current Super Duty model page covers active P708 trims and the trim ladder.) The P708 is a distinct platform code from the F150's 14th-gen P702, so do not confuse the two if you cross-shop or read forum threads that mix them up.

None of the 4th-gen P558 bumpers bolt to a P708 truck. The front clip shape changed, the frame mounting brackets moved, and the wiring for accessory lighting is different. Inside 2023-2026, all model years interchange so far. The aftermarket catalog is still filling out, since the truck is only a few years on the market. Fab Fours and Addictive Desert Designs led the early P708 supplier launches with first-wave SKUs. Shop 2023-2026 Ford Super Duty bumpers.

Common pitfalls:

  • Tell a 2022 from a 2023 by the front fascia and headlights. On a 2023 the grille and headlights take a more squared-off, blocky look with new daytime running light signatures, and the hood line sits higher. 2017-2022 trucks have smoother, more rounded headlight outlines and a lower hood line. If the headlights look chiseled and the front looks more upright, it is a 2023-2026.
  • CANBUS integration on the P708 is heavier than the P558. Adding light bars or auxiliary fog lights to an aftermarket front usually needs a CANBUS adapter to avoid dashboard error codes.
  • Tremor and Limited trims on the P708 ship with deeper sensor packages and front skid plates. Verify the aftermarket front lists Tremor or Limited fitment if you run either trim.
  • The P708 5th gen and the F150 14th-gen P702 share some aesthetic cues but no platform parts. Front bumpers do not cross between the two trucks. Read the fitment table by truck line, not by year alone.
  • The same CANBUS install rules apply as on the P558. Use a relay harness off the battery for any auxiliary lighting and trigger it through the factory upfitter switches. Wiring light bars or fog pods into the factory fog circuit will throw error codes or kill the circuit outright.

F450 and F550 Chassis Cab Fitment

Ford F450 chassis cab with aftermarket bumper - BumperStock.

The F450 and F550 chassis cabs share the Super Duty platform with F250 and F350 pickups, but they are not the same truck for bumper purposes. F450 and F550 use a longer wheelbase, a heavier frame, and different mounting bracket spacing on most SKUs. A bumper labeled "F250/F350" usually will not bolt directly to a chassis cab. A chassis cab is the truck without a factory pickup bed, sold as a bare cab and frame for commercial body builders, flatbeds, dump beds, service bodies, and tow rigs.

A handful of suppliers list dual fitment that covers both F250/F350 and F450/F550 in the same generation. Fab Fours, Ranch Hand, Hammerhead, and Frontier all have chassis-cab-specific SKUs in their catalogs. Most other brands split fitment by truck line. Verify the SKU lists F450 or F550 explicitly before ordering.

Year ranges follow the same Super Duty generation cutoffs as the F250/F350 line:

The two big Super Duty cutoffs (2011 P473 and 2017 P558) apply to F450/F550 the same way they apply to F250/F350. A 2010 chassis-cab bumper does not bolt to a 2011, and a 2016 does not bolt to a 2017. Verify the chassis cab fitment line on every SKU.

Sensors, Cameras and CANBUS Across Super Duty Generations

This is the consolidated reference. Match your generation row, then verify your bumper SKU supports the listed factory features.

FMVSS 111 made backup cameras federal law on May 1, 2018, for vehicles under 10,000 lbs GVWR. Most F250 trims fall at or below the cutoff and ship with factory cameras. F350 dual-rear-wheel, F450, and F550 chassis cabs typically exceed 10,000 lbs GVWR and are not federally required to carry a camera. The vast majority of factory trucks in those configurations still come with the camera installed, and aftermarket rears in the 2017+ era ship with camera cutouts standard.

Every value in the master table, the per-gen tables, and the matrix above pulls from the supplier sheets we ship against plus the Ford factory specs those sheets cite. For non-standard configurations, including a chassis cab build with a custom upfit, a fleet trim with non-standard tow gear, or a retrofit setup with a lift or skid-plate change, send the year, trim, and VIN. We match it to the supplier sheet for the exact Super Duty platform, PHN131 through P708, before anything ships.

Common Super Duty Fitment Mistakes

  1. Ordering a 2010 bumper for a 2011 F250. The P473 platform redesigned the front clip and the bolt pattern. The truck looks related but the bumper will not align.

  2. Confusing the 2005 facelift with the 1999-2004 trucks. Both are 1st gen PHN131, but the 2005 fascia restyle broke most front bumper fitment. Order by year, not by generation label alone.

  3. Treating a 2016 bumper as compatible with a 2017. The 2017 P558 brought the aluminum body and a new front clip. A 2016 P473 front does not transfer. This is the Super Duty equivalent of the 2015 F150 aluminum story, one generation later.

  4. Treating F450 or F550 chassis cabs as the same as F250 or F350 pickups. They share the Super Duty platform but use different bracket spacing on most bumpers. Verify the SKU lists F450 or F550 explicitly before ordering.

  5. Searching for a pre-1999 F250 or F350 bumper under the Super Duty label. The Super Duty nameplate launched for 1999. Anything from 1992 through 1998 is the OBS-era F-Series HD, a separate platform with separate fitment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will a 2010 F250 bumper fit a 2011?

No. The 2011 model year launched the 3rd-gen P473 platform with a redesigned front clip on a strengthened frame. How the bumper bolts to the frame and the bolt pattern both changed. A 2nd-gen 2008-2010 bumper will not bolt to a 2011 or later truck.

Will a 2016 F250 bumper fit a 2017?

No. The 2017 model year launched the 4th-gen P558 platform with an aluminum cab and bed, a new front clip, and a wider headlight-and-grille assembly. The 3rd-gen 2011-2016 bumpers do not transfer to 2017 or later trucks. This is the Super Duty's aluminum cutoff.

What year did the Ford Super Duty get an aluminum body?

2017 model year. The 4th-gen P558 launched with a 6000-series aluminum cab and bed on top of a 95% high-strength steel frame. Ford pulled up to 350 pounds out of the truck while adding heavier-duty content. This was also the first time since 1996 that the Super Duty cab shared sheet metal with the F150.

Are F250 and F350 Super Duty bumpers the same?

In most cases yes. F250 and F350 pickups share the Super Duty platform within each generation, and most aftermarket bumpers fit both trucks at the same mounting points. The exception is F350 dual-rear-wheel trims in some generations, which can require a wider rear bumper SKU. Verify the listing covers both single and dual rear wheel if your truck is an F350 DRW.

Will an F250 bumper fit an F450 or F550?

Sometimes. F450 and F550 chassis cabs share the Super Duty platform with F250 and F350 pickups, but their bumper bracket spacing differs on most SKUs. Some Fab Fours, Ranch Hand, Hammerhead, and Frontier bumpers list dual fitment that covers both lines. Many others split. Always confirm the SKU lists F450 or F550 explicitly before ordering for a chassis cab.

Will a 2007 F250 bumper fit a 2008?

No. The 2008 model year launched the 2nd-gen P356 platform with a fully redesigned front clip and a new bolt pattern. The 1st-gen 2005-2007 facelift bumpers will not transfer to 2008 or later trucks.

Will a 2022 F250 bumper fit a 2023?

No. The 2023 model year launched the 5th-gen P708 platform with a restyled front fascia, a new wiring harness, and different frame mounting brackets. None of the 4th-gen 2017-2022 P558 bumpers bolt to a P708 truck.

Do I need a camera-compatible bumper for my F250 Super Duty?

Most likely yes if your truck is a 2018 or later F250. FMVSS 111 made backup cameras mandatory on vehicles under 10,000 lbs GVWR starting May 1, 2018, and most F250 trims sit at or below that cutoff. F350 dual-rear-wheel, F450, and F550 chassis cabs typically exceed the threshold, but their factory cameras are still standard on most modern trucks. Any aftermarket rear bumper for a 2017+ Super Duty should carry the camera cutout.

Does engine type affect Super Duty bumper fitment?

No. Bumper fitment is set by the body and frame, not by what is under the hood. A 7.3L Powerstroke, a 6.0L, a 6.4L, a 6.7L, a 5.4L Triton gas, a 6.8L V10, a 6.2L Boss, or a 7.3L Godzilla all use the same frame mounting points within the same generation. The only place engine choice matters is lower air-dam clearance on some off-road fronts, where diesel cooling routing can crowd the airflow path.

Does cab size affect Super Duty bumper fitment?

No. Regular Cab, SuperCab, and Crew Cab all bolt to the same front and rear bumper interfaces within a generation. Cab length sits between the front and rear mounts, so it does not change where the bumper attaches. Bed length is the same story for rear bumpers, with one exception: F350 dual-rear-wheel trucks need a wider rear SKU regardless of cab choice.
