The 2000 model year splits in two
Match the body, not the year. For 2000 the light-duty Tahoe, Suburban and Yukon moved to the new shape. At the same time Chevrolet built the old-shape Tahoe for one last season in two versions. The Tahoe Limited ran rear-wheel drive. The Tahoe Z71 ran 4x4. Both came out of Arlington, and both are 2000 models wearing the older body.
So a 2000 Tahoe can be either shape. Watch the Z71 badge here. Chevrolet also sold a Z71 on the new body that year, so the badge alone settles nothing. A 2000 Limited is always the older body. A 2000 Suburban is always the newer one. Settle the body first, then pick the bumper.
Front bumpers by body
1992 to 2000 Suburban. Hammerhead lists its Low Profile front bumper, 600-56-0185S, across that whole span. It takes a winch, and the fog light openings hold up to four 3.25-inch cube lights. The plate is 3/16 inch thick, the finish is a two-stage black powder coat, and it weighs 152 pounds. $1,934.10. Hammerhead fabricates in Bay Springs, Mississippi.
2000 to 2006 Tahoe and Suburban. Three fronts sit in this band, and 2000 is the year they touch this page. The Ranch Hand Summit, FSC99HBL1, adds a full guard over the grille and headlights, cut from diamond plate and 4-inch schedule 40 pipe, the heavy-wall grade. It runs 193 pounds, $1,744.95. Two limits: Z71 fog lights do not clear it, and a body lift rules it out. Ranch Hand covers the structure for the life of the bumper, to the original owner. The Frontier Original front bumper, 300-29-9005, keeps the factory tow hooks and fog lights, needs no drilling, and weighs 185 pounds, $1,847.50. Hammerhead's Pre-Runner front, 600-56-0127T, is listed for 2000 alone, not the years after it. It carries a tube guard in 1.75-inch stock and weighs 235 pounds, $2,060.10. Hammerhead has verified it with the Warn VR8000 and M8000.
Rear bumpers by body
1992 to 1999 Suburban, half-ton only. The Hammerhead flush-mount rear bumper, 600-56-0653, is quarter-inch plate at 97 pounds, with tag lights, steps and shackle mounts welded in. Hammerhead restricts it to the 1500 body. $1,547.10.
2000 to 2006 Suburban. Hammerhead runs a flush-mount rear, 600-56-0531S at 117 pounds, and a standard rear, 600-56-0202S at 147 pounds. Both are quarter-inch plate in the same two-stage black finish, $1,547.10 each. The flush-mount is the lighter of the two by 30 pounds.
2000 to 2006, three-quarter-ton only. The Ranch Hand Legend rear bumper, BBC008BLS, suits the 2500 Suburban, Tahoe, Yukon and Yukon XL. It carries an 8-inch skirt, and Ranch Hand rates it at 1,000 pounds on the tongue and 10,000 pounds behind it. It ships without backup lights, so plan for that. $914.95.
Every one of these is a bolt-on. Budget three to five hours and a second set of hands, since these ship freight and the heaviest runs 235 pounds. For the other year ranges, start at the Chevy Tahoe and Suburban bumpers hub.
Frequently Asked Questions
I have a 2000 Tahoe. How do I tell which bumper fits?
Start with the trim, then confirm the body. A 2000 Limited is the older body, every time. A 2000 Z71 is the trap, because Chevrolet sold that badge on both the run-out older body and the new one. Every other 2000 Tahoe is the newer shape, and so is every 2000 Suburban. Run the truck through the fitment tool above, then match the front bumper or rear bumper to it.
My Suburban is a 1989. What fits it?
Nothing on this page. The steel here starts with the 1992 body. A 1988 to 1991 Suburban wears the shape Chevrolet ran until the end of 1991, and none of this steel is listed for it. The Tahoe nameplate did not arrive until 1995, so there is no 1988 to 1994 Tahoe at all. Check with us before you order anything for those years.
Where does this page stop and the next one start?
The split is a body change, not a calendar line. Most steel listed for 2000 runs through 2006, because the newer body ran on to 2006. A 2000 Suburban takes those parts. A 2000 Tahoe Limited or Tahoe Z71 does not, since it kept the older body. See the 2001-2006 Chevy Tahoe and Suburban page for that full run.
