How Much Guard You Want Up Front

Every Ranch Hand front for the F450 and F550 comes down to the guard. There are four shapes.

A full grille guard. That is the Legend. Tall steel uprights wrap the grille and the headlights, in 4-inch steel pipe and diamond plate. It is the classic heavy ranch front, and it covers the 1999 through 2016 trucks, cut in runs for your exact years. The steel runs north of 250 pounds, so plan on a second set of hands. Go this way when you want the most coverage on the nose.

A cleaner full-width guard. The Summit. It carries a wraparound brush guard over the headlights and a grille insert shaped to the truck, in diamond plate over 4-inch pipe. The face is more modern than the Legend's tall guard, and it runs lighter, around 230 pounds on the 2011-2016 trucks. Choose it when you want solid protection without the open ranch guard.

A winch front. The Sport is the one here. The 2011-2016 version is rated for a winch up to 15,000 pounds, in quarter-inch formed steel and diamond plate, with a brush guard up top. A 2023-2026 Sport brings the same brush-guard look to the newest trucks. This is the pick if recovery is the point, or if you want a brush guard without the full grille guard.

A slim bull bar. That is the Legend Bullnose. Same Legend base, but a single steel bar runs across the grille instead of the full guard. Less coverage, sharper look. It is the front for the 2017 and newer trucks, and the one that keeps your factory parking sensors and clears the front camera and adaptive cruise. Pick it on a 2017-2026 F450 or F550 when you want a guard without the full wraparound.

All four come from Ranch Hand, Texas steel since 1986, finished in black powder coat with a 2-inch receiver so you can still push a trailer.

Getting It Right on Your F450 or F550

Sensors and cameras. The older fronts, 1999 through 2016, are made for trucks without front parking sensors. The 2011-2016 Summit ships a bracket to relocate the adaptive-cruise module if your truck has one. From 2017 on, the Legend Bullnose keeps the factory parking sensors and clears the camera and adaptive cruise. Match the front to what your truck actually runs.

Diesel and install. A Power Stroke does not change the front bumper. It bolts to the frame the same on a diesel or a gas truck. These are heavy steel and ship by freight, so grab a helper and set aside a couple of hours. Every one is a direct bolt-on, with the hardware and instructions in the box. No welding required.
