Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon Bumpers: What Fits Your 2015-2022 Truck

Lifted gray 2015-2020 GMC Canyon with an ADD HoneyBadger steel front bumper, 2 light bars and a winch hook, parked on pavement

The Colorado and the Canyon are the same truck wearing two badges. Your front bumper doesn't care about the badge. It cares about the face.

From 2015 to 2022, the front bumper depends on 2 things: your truck (a regular Colorado, a ZR2 or a Canyon) and its year, because all 3 got a new face for 2021. Rear bumpers are simpler: Steelcraft's Fortis rear bumper fits both trucks, 2015 to 2022, every trim but the ZR2.

In a December 2022 thread on the ZR2zone forum, a ZR2 owner found a great price on a regular Colorado bumper, 1 digit off the ZR2 version's part number. He asked the manufacturer first. The answer came back as a PDF: it won't fit.

A steel front bumper shields the front of your truck and turns its nose into a mount for a winch, a light bar and D-rings for recovery, so it pays to get the right one. You can check your truck in 1 minute: the grille, the sticker in the driver's door jamb and the sensors.

Grille, Door Jamb, Sensors: The 1-Minute Check

  1. Grille: ZR2 or not. A ZR2 badge on the grille, or CHEVROLET spelled out across a 2021-2022 grille, means a ZR2. It has its own front end, so only ZR2 bumpers fit it. A Z71 badge doesn't count, and a Canyon has no ZR2.
  2. Driver's door jamb: the model year. Open the driver's door. The sticker on the jamb or the door's edge shows the month your truck was built and its VIN. Go by the VIN: Chevy started building 2021 Colorados at the end of June 2020, so a 2021 can show a 2020 build date.

✕Build date, not the model year

    VIN 1GCGTCEN0M1000000

    ✓10th character: M = 2021

    F, G, H, J, K or L in that 10th spot means 2015-2020. M or N means 2021-2022. P or later is a 2023 or newer, a different truck.

  3. Sensors: front and rear. These trucks have no parking sensors up front, so when a front bumper says "Not Sensor Compatible", that doesn't matter on your truck. Now look at the rear bumper. 4 small round buttons, 2 on each side of the license plate, are parking sensors, standard on some trims from 2019. If you have them, pick a rear bumper that works with them.

2015-2020 Colorado: The Most Options

Front bumper Best for
Steelcraft Fortis, about $1,150 Lights: a 20-inch light bar and 4 cube lights
Go Rhino BR6, about $1,785 A winch up to 12,000 lb
Fab Fours Vengeance, about $1,790 Lights: a 20-inch light bar
Fab Fours Premium, about $2,120 A winch up to 10,000 lb, with fog and turn lights in the box
ADD HoneyBadger, about $2,700 A winch and 2 light bars. It fits the Canyon too

2021-2022 Colorado: New Front End, New Front Bumper

For 2021, Chevy reshaped the nose with new grille bars, a new lower front end and a new skid plate under it. A steel front bumper takes the place of that lower front end and has to meet the grille above it. On a 2021 or 2022, buy a front bumper made for your year.

For the regular Colorado, we carry Fab Fours front bumpers built for the 2021 face. The Vengeance front bumper, from about $1,790, weighs 125 pounds without a guard and has room for a 20-inch light bar. The Matrix front bumper, from about $1,980, takes a winch up to 12,000 lb.

ZR2: Only a ZR2 Bumper Lines Up

Most front bumpers for the regular Colorado exclude the ZR2 by name. Fab Fours marks its Matrix front bumper "Will not fit the Colorado ZR2", and Go Rhino's BR6 front bumper says "Excludes ZR2 models". If a front bumper doesn't say it fits the ZR2, it isn't for one.

The ZR2 owner we mentioned up top said it best: he didn't want to "drop several hundred dollars on a bumper that won't fit."

Our ZR2 front bumpers come from ADD, Addictive Desert Designs. A 2017-2020 ZR2 takes ADD's Stealth Fighter front bumper, from about $2,200. A 2021-2022 ZR2 takes the PRO Bolt-on front bumper, about $1,900, or a Stealth Fighter front bumper built for the new face, about $2,300.

GMC Canyon: Front Bumpers Built for Its Face

For a 2015-2020 Canyon, Fab Fours builds Canyon versions of its Vengeance front bumper, from about $1,790, and its Premium winch front bumper, from about $2,120. They share names and prices with the Colorado bumpers, so buy the bumper made for the Canyon. ADD's HoneyBadger front bumper, about $2,700, fits the 2015-2020 Colorado and Canyon.

Got a 2021-2022 Canyon? GMC redesigned its front bumper and grille for 2021, and we don't carry a front bumper for that face. What we do carry for it is Steelcraft's Fortis rear bumper.

Rear Bumpers: Pick One That Works With Your Sensors

Steelcraft's Fortis rear bumper fits the Colorado and the Canyon, 2015 to 2022, for about $890. It works with or without sensors: rubber plugs in the box fill the holes.

All 3 rear bumpers here work with the factory sensors:

Rear bumper Fits (every trim but the ZR2)
Steelcraft Fortis, about $890 Colorado and Canyon, 2015-2022. D-ring shackle mounts
Fab Fours Premium, sensor version, about $1,110 Colorado, 2015-2022. Steps beside the tailgate
Fab Fours Vengeance, sensor version, about $1,420 Colorado, 2015-2022. Room for 4 cube lights

In August a truck owner asked us in chat about that Fab Fours Premium rear bumper: "does it actually support rear sensors?" He asked the right question: a rear bumper without sensor holes leaves your sensors nowhere to go. This one is built for them: Fab Fours' manual has you move the factory sensors into it.

On a ZR2, keep the factory rear bumper: none of these rear bumpers says it fits the ZR2.

Grille, door jamb, rear sensors: that's your check. Match the bumper's years to your VIN. On a ZR2, buy a front bumper that says it fits the ZR2.
