Frontier Truck Gear Builds in Center Point, Texas
Rocky Marshall started Frontier Truck Gear in 2001, and the company builds in Center Point, Texas, welding every bumper by hand to fit one truck. Frontier sells through dealers rather than direct, and grew that way, landing on the Inc. 5000 four times and twice on the Aggie 100, Texas A&M's ranking of the fastest-growing Aggie-owned or Aggie-led businesses in the world.
Diamond plate is what people recognize Frontier by, the raised-tread steel off toolboxes and trailer decks. The same plate goes on the front bumper, the rear bumper, and the guard, which is why a truck wearing all three looks built rather than accessorized. That look is most of why people pick Frontier over some other slab of steel. The rest is that it is welded one truck at a time in Texas. Across the trucks we ship, the Original front bumper is 53 percent of every Frontier order that leaves here and standalone grille guards are another 24 percent. More than half go on three-quarter and one-ton trucks. Our busiest fitments are the Ford F250/F350, Ram 2500/3500, and Chevy Silverado 2500/3500 bumpers, with the Silverado 1500 leading the half-tons.
Why Truck Owners Choose Frontier
A factory front bumper is thin, and it's made to fold. Frontier replaces it with one welded piece of steel that bolts to the truck frame itself, not to the plastic and sheet metal around it. On the Original, the Pro, and the Commercial there's no bolt-together seam to work loose, because the bumper and the guard leave the shop as a single unit. What you hit, the frame takes.
The weight is the point. An Original front bumper runs 165 to 216 pounds depending on the truck, and the median across the Original line sits at 205. A standalone guard is 90 to 139, the Xtreme 128 to 180, the Pro 266 to 280. Those figures come off our own product pages. On some trucks the spread inside one series is wider than the gap between two of them, so read the number for your year rather than the series.
The Frontier Series
Half-ton means F150, Ram 1500, Silverado and Sierra 1500. Three-quarter and one-ton mean F250, F350, Ram 2500 and 3500, and the HD Silverados and Sierras. That split runs through what follows: what a bumper weighs, what it costs, and in the Commercial's case whether Frontier builds it for your truck at all.
Original
Buy this one unless you have a reason not to. It is 53 percent of every Frontier order we ship, and the reason is the guard: a full front bumper with the wraparound welded in as one piece, in diamond plate, on the frame, from $1,848. Factory fog lights stay, and tow hooks stay on all but a handful of fitments. A number of fitments take a 20-inch light bar. Frontier does not publish a steel gauge for the Original, and we would rather say so than quote a number we cannot stand behind.
Xtreme
The Xtreme is the same bumper with the tall wraparound taken off, a low bullnose cap following the factory lines instead. You lose the coverage over the grille, headlights, and hood. You get a lower profile and, on most trucks, less weight. Not on every truck. The Xtreme spans 128 to 180 pounds against the Original's 165 to 216, and on the newest GM half-tons it lands at the heavy end where that saving disappears. Its listings are the only ones that publish a gauge figure, an 11-gauge body, about an eighth of an inch, with a 3/16-inch center section. Lower gauge numbers mean thicker steel.
Pro
The Pro is the thick-plate build, 266 to 280 pounds, smooth plate across the center and diamond plate on the flanks. It carries a welded-in 2-inch receiver at the front of the truck, the same square tube as the hitch at the back. Frontier publishes no pull rating for it, so treat it as a mount and not a recovery point.
Sport
Sport is the only Frontier front that takes a winch. Lower and cleaner than the Original, diamond plate, D-ring mounts for a recovery strap, hoop bar optional. Frontier publishes no winch rating for it.
Commercial
Round pipe instead of diamond plate. The Commercial is 4-inch schedule-40 steel pipe in the shape ranch and fleet trucks have run for decades, with a steel grille screen inside the hoop, and at 280 to 300 pounds it sits at the top of Frontier's range. Frontier builds it for heavy-duty trucks only, at $2,328.
Diamond Rear
The rear bumper is diamond plate with a corner step cut in for climbing into the bed, 78 to 100 pounds, keeping access to your hitch and tow hooks. Rears come in variants: with sensor cutouts, without, and some with back-up lights built in rather than sold separately, which is worth a look if you load in the dark. Same tread and same finish as the front, matching the truck end to end. Your model collection in the menu above lists the rears that fit your years alongside the fronts.
Frontier Grille Guards
The grille guard is the steel cage across the front that shields the grille, headlights, and hood. Owners call it a brush guard or a grill guard, and after a close call on a back road, a deer guard. Frontier welds one into the Original, the Pro, and the Commercial as part of the bumper. The other way to own one is the standalone guard, which mounts ahead of your factory bumper and leaves it in place. That is the widest line we carry and the least expensive way to armor the front, from $974, at 90 to 139 pounds. It bolts to the frame, not to the factory bumper, because a guard fastened to bumper skin passes the hit to sheet metal. It carries Frontier's punch-plate grille, a steel sheet with holes punched through it, and wings that wrap toward the fenders. Most guard fitments come as two part numbers, one cut for factory park assist sensors and one without. Pick the one that matches your truck.
Before You Order
Fitment. Every Frontier bumper is made for one truck and one year range. Frontier supplies the brackets and hardware and specifies no drilling on most fitments. Two people and an afternoon is the normal job. A rear runs under 100 pounds, a front 165 and up, the Pro and Commercial past 280.
Finish. Frontier bumpers ship in black powder coat, baked on. There's no chrome and no color matching. Black steel with a diamond tread is the whole look.
Lights and sensors. Does your truck beep when you park? Does your cruise control hold a following distance on its own? If either is a yes, buy by part number rather than by series. Frontier builds most fitments in more than one version, and which one you need depends on your year, your trim, and the driver-assist boxes your truck left the factory with. Some fitments keep adaptive cruise once the center plate is modified, some will not take it, and certain trims are excluded outright. Fog lights and tow hooks come through on nearly everything. The listing for your exact year carries its own fit notes, and that page settles it.
Warranty. Frontier covers every bumper for one year from purchase against defects in workmanship, materials, and finish. The remedy is a replacement piece: removal, reinstallation, and freight are not included. Claims go back through the seller with the original receipt, which is a reason to buy from a dealer who will still be here.
Value. A standalone guard starts at $974 and a diamond-plate rear runs $909 to $1,038. On the front, the Xtreme undercuts the Original by roughly $216, and what you give up is the wraparound. Between those two, our buyers take the Original better than nine times out of ten.
Buying and shipping. We are an authorized Frontier dealer, and every bumper on this page ships free across the lower 48. Pick your truck from the menu above and you will see the series and the years that fit it. If the fit notes leave you guessing, contact us with your year, make, and cab and we will confirm the part number before you order. Frontier welded it by hand in Center Point. Bolt it to your frame.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who makes Frontier bumpers, and where are they built?
Frontier Truck Gear, a Texas company started in 2001 by Rocky Marshall, building in Center Point, Texas. Frontier Truck Gear is a bumper brand, not the Nissan Frontier pickup, and it is a different company from Frontier Truck Parts in Michigan. The bumpers here fit Chevy, GMC, Ford, Ram, and Toyota trucks.
Are Frontier bumpers good quality?
Each one is a single welded piece of steel that mounts to the truck frame, most of it in diamond plate under a baked-on powder coat. Frontier has built them in Texas since 2001 and has made the Inc. 5000 growth list four times. Every bumper carries a one-year warranty against defects in workmanship, materials, and finish, with a replacement piece as the remedy.
Will a Frontier bumper work with my parking sensors and adaptive cruise?
It depends on the part number, not on the series. Frontier builds most fitments in more than one version, one cut for factory park assist sensors and one without, and rear bumpers split the same way. Adaptive cruise is the finicky one: some fitments keep it once the center plate is modified, some will not take it, and certain trims and driver-assist packages are excluded. The listing for your exact year and trim carries the fit notes that settle it. Contact us with your year, make, and trim and we will confirm the part number before you order.
Should I get a grille guard or a full front bumper replacement?
A standalone guard bolts to the frame ahead of your factory bumper and leaves that bumper in place, shielding the grille, headlights, and hood from $974. A full replacement takes the factory bumper off and puts one welded piece of steel where it was, guard and bumper together with no seam. The guard is the cheaper answer and the easier one to move to your next truck. The replacement is the stronger one, and it is what about six in ten of our Frontier orders are.
How much does a Frontier bumper cost?
Standalone grille guards start at $974. Diamond-plate rear bumpers run $909 to $1,038. On the front: Xtreme from $1,632, Original from $1,848, Sport $1,910, Pro from $2,262, Commercial $2,328. Prices are per fitment. Your truck and year set the figure on the product page.
How much does a Frontier bumper weigh, and can I install it myself?
An Original front bumper weighs 165 to 216 pounds, with the median at 205. The Xtreme spans 128 to 180, the Pro 266 to 280, the Commercial 280 to 300, a standalone guard 90 to 139, and a diamond-plate rear 78 to 100. Installation is bolt-on, with brackets and hardware supplied and no drilling specified on most fitments. Plan on two people and an afternoon. A rear is under 100 pounds, a front starts at 165, and the Pro and Commercial pass 280. Match the help to the part.
