What the Fab Fours Matrix Is

The Matrix is Fab Fours' hard-angled off-road bumper with a winch behind the face. It's cut from 3/16-inch steel plate, and a winch mount hides low in the body, rated up to 12,000 pounds. The lighter Fab Fours bumpers are made from sheet steel measured in gauge, where a lower number means thicker metal. The Matrix steps off that scale. It runs 3/16-inch plate, the same thickness Fab Fours puts on its Premium flagship, and heavier than any of the gauge-numbered series. Built-in D-ring mounts give a tow strap a place to hook. The Matrix Guards, and Which to Pick

Matrix comes in three front faces. Every face is winch-ready, so the choice is the grille, and how much steel you want standing over it. It fits half-tons like the Ford F150 and the heavy-duty trucks it sells hardest on, the three-quarter and one-ton Silverado and Sierra HD, Super Duty, and Ram 2500 and 3500.

Pre-Runner Guard

The Matrix face we ship most. A single raised bar stands across the center of the grille, the desert-truck look, without wrapping the headlights. It shields the grille and leaves the winch and the light bar in the open, and on weight it rides in the middle of the three.

Full Guard

Steel wraps up and over the grille and the headlights both. It gives up the least of the front to a hit and stands heaviest of the three, the face for the truck that pushes brush and runs backcountry with a winch on the nose.

No Guard

The bumper alone, winch and lights and all, with nothing over the grille. It's the lowest, cleanest Matrix, for the owner who wants the plate and the winch and the bar with no hoop on top.

The Light Bar, the Winch, and the Inserts

This is the front you set up your own way, and it starts with the lighting. The center holds a 30-inch LED light bar, the biggest the Fab Fours front lineup takes, and the sides hold up to four LED cube lights, two to a side. Run a single-row bar with a winch mounted, or a taller double-row bar if you leave the winch off. The bar and the cubes are sold separately, so you run as much or as little light as you want.

The winch mount sits low and out of sight in the body, rated up to 12,000 pounds, with the D-ring mounts built in beside it. The winch is a separate buy, and each listing shows the exact rating for that truck, so you match the two before you order.

The face carries removable inserts you can pull out and paint to match the truck, which is why it's the most customizable front Fab Fours builds. Black out the whole face, or color the inserts to the body, and the same bumper takes on two looks.

What to Know Before You Buy

Fitment. Every Matrix is cut to fit one truck and one year span, and it bolts on with the brackets and hardware packed in the box, no cutting or drilling on almost every fitment. This is heavy plate steel with a winch mount in it, so plan on two people and a couple of hours in the driveway, or a shop if you'd rather. Winch. Every Matrix is winch-ready out of the box, and the winch is a separate buy, up to the 12,000-pound ceiling. The exact rating for your truck is on its listing, so check it before you buy the winch.

Lights and sensors. The Matrix lights the front with a 30-inch light bar and up to four cube lights, all sold on their own, in place of factory fog housings. It has cutouts for factory parking sensors, so those carry over where the truck has them. Sensor support still changes by truck and year, so read the fit notes on your exact truck before you order.

Finish. Every Matrix ships in matte black powder coat over the steel. It's one flat black color, no chrome and no paint match, though the removable inserts are made to paint if you want color on the face.

Value. Matrix is front-only, so you pay one price, not a front-and-rear pair. Most run about $1,540 to $2,710 depending on the truck and the guard. Midsize trucks like the Tacoma and the Bronco sit near the bottom, and a heavy-duty full guard sits at the top, as the steel grows with the platform.
